Muir is the most widely experienced adventurer in Australian history, having been at the cutting edge of world adventure and exploration for 40 years. He is an extraordinary motivational speaker, eloquently illustrating decades of survival in the world’s harshest environments.
Jon made the first sherpaless ascent of Everest, from the South arriving at the summit alone, pioneered a new route to the South Pole, completed an unsupported trek to the North Pole and has travelled over 5000km by sea kayak. These notable achievements have been stepping stones to his most challenging accomplishments thus far.
In 2001, Jon became the first person to walk across Australia without resupply or external support. This monumental odyssey took 128 days. Every day of the traverse was harder than the day he summited Everest.
In 2007, he made an equally gruelling 1700 km, unassisted trek from the ocean to the ‘Point of Inaccessibility’ (the Geographic Centre of Australia.) Jon’s irrepressible enthusiasm for exploration has seen him push the envelope of what is humanly possible throughout his long and varied career.
Jon has filmed and directed 6 documentaries, his most celebrated being ‘Alone across Australia.’ His book, of the same name, illuminates the Australian landscape and the enormous physical and emotional challenges that Muir faced during his unsupported traverse of the continent.
